Diamond League Final – Belgium
Olympic Bronze Medallist Matt Denny created a new lifetime best in the Diamond League final in Belgium, with a new National and Queensland record of 69.96m which adds 61cm to his own record which he set in Adelaide at the Australian Championships.
UQ Winter Series – Brisbane
UQ hosted the third winter meet of the year on a perfect afternoon at the University of Queensland. A lot of the athletes are aiming for the QA State All Schools.
Significant Performances
- Charlize Goody (Ipswich) got the Discus out to 49.12m and 42.85m in the Javelin.
- Kye Lowth (Bert Squad) 3000m in 8:32.89 winning by 9 seconds.
- Emma Fryga (Mayne Harriers) backing up from QGSSSA on Thursday to win the 800m in 2:06.49 – a new Queensland Under 16 record.
- The 100m went to Lara Davis (Maroochy) with 12.30 (0.1) and Aziz Marone (Uni QLD) with 11.17 (-1.2).

Queensland Athletics 10,000m Championships – UQ
Aidan Hobbs (Intraining) split the field of seventeen athletes apart after 1200m and it was ‘see you later, shut the gate’ for the rest of the field. A dominate display from the 37yr old over 25 laps of the track at the University of Queensland in a time of 30:58.76. Nick Dewar (Distance Culture Club) was second in 31:11.84 and third was Marcus Hughes (Queensland Masters) in 31.22.60. This was Aidan’s third consecutive Queensland 10,000m title.
In the Under 20 Championship, Timothy Hogno (Darling Downs) took the State title in 32:27.75 and Harvey Hermiston (Redlands) was second in 33:04.05.
There were no entries for either the Open Women or Under 20 Women.
